Dating back to as early as the eighth century, followers of Jesus have prayed a series of seven prayers during the final seven days of Advent. Formally, those prayers are known as the "O Antiphons" and each of them focuses on one of the names for the Messiah, Jesus our Lord, found in the Old Testament [Antiphon - a short sentence sung or recited... O - because each of these seven prayers begins with... Yep, "O".]. As these Advent days quicken, and we move towards Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, may we join our own longing and voices to these prayers.
"O King of all nations and keystone of the Church:
come and save humanity, whom you formed from the dust!"
